Who: Founded in 1999 by executives from revenue management and travel distribution backgrounds.
Why: In 1999, Rubicon founders Steve Swope, Tim Hart and Andy Storey saw a critical need in the marketplace. While participating in the largest, most complex revenue management implementations in the airline, hotel and rental car industries, they observed that virtually all such systems failed to take into account competitor pricing. These systems relied heavily on important historical information but did not take into account essential future price and demand information. Seeking to advance the state of revenue management, Swope, Hart and Storey launched Rubicon and resolved to integrate future competitive pricing and market demand information into the price decision process.
